The Energy Support Package for Bosnia and Herzegovina: “Measures, Steps, and Incentives for Improving Energy Efficiency in Companies and Households”

Out of the 70 million euros available to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Energy Support Package from the European Union, approximately one-third will be distributed as support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as households, for improving energy efficiency.

The discussions will revolve around the needs for improving energy efficiency, the practices and experiences of such projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and how the European Union supports businesses, citizens, and institutions in BiH. These important questions will be addressed during the expert discussion organized by the European Union Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the INTERA Technology Park in Mostar.

The event will feature speakers from the European Union Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of government institutions, experts in energy efficiency, and representatives from the private sector who have already implemented similar projects.

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 16:00 to 17:30 in the Europa Hall at the INTERA Technology Park in Mostar.

The Energy Support Package from the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina is a response to the significant rise in prices for households and businesses, including energy bills, and is designed to assist the country in facing the current challenges. Out of the 70 million euros of current aid allocated to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 50 million euros are earmarked for mitigating the impact of high prices. The most vulnerable families are expected to receive cash payments through social protection institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, and the Brčko District. An additional 10 million euros will be allocated to improving energy efficiency in 4,000 residential buildings, while another 10 million euros will be directed to around 400 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises facing challenges due to the energy crisis.

The European Commission has signed and delivered a Financing Agreement for the Energy Support Package worth 70 million euros to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The competent institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are currently in the process of preparing for the signing, and it is expected that BiH will receive a positive assessment from the European Commission regarding the progress in implementing the Action Plan adopted by the Council of Ministers of BiH in December 2022. The Action Plan outlines the measures that domestic authorities will implement to utilize the funds from the Energy Support Package and enable the country’s energy transition.
