Within the STAR Project – Strengthening tourism offerings in the cross-border region by attracting digital nomads to rural areas – a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the project partners and the mapped tourism operators from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. This document confirms the shared intention for long-term cooperation aimed at positioning both countries as attractive destinations for digital nomads.
The STAR Project aims to improve the quality of tourism services, develop new offerings, and strengthen cooperation with local service providers operating in rural areas. So far, 30 tourism operators have been mapped – 20 from Montenegro and 10 from Herzegovina – who provide services and experiences tailored to digital nomads. These include rural households, eco and ethno villages, farms, campsites, co-living and coworking spaces, motels, and holiday homes offering reliable internet, local food, authentic experiences, and opportunities to connect with local communities.
Through project activities, operators participate in various training programs to enhance their capacities for working with digital nomads, covering topics such as understanding the needs and preferences of digital nomads, digital marketing, copywriting, and sales. In parallel, content is being prepared for web platforms and a mobile application that will consolidate all relevant information about the cross-border tourism offer for digital nomads and new tourist routes tailored to this target group.
For Herzegovina, the data will be available on the existing platform digitalnomadsherzegovina.com, while a new web platform is being developed in Montenegro. Joint information will be consolidated in a mobile application that is currently in preparation.
The recently held Cross Border Coworking Conference was an opportunity for the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, through which partners and tourism operators confirmed their commitment to developing a sustainable and competitive offer for digital nomads.
Through this cooperation, project partners will continue to provide support in education and promotion, while operators will actively apply new knowledge and develop innovative services that contribute to the strengthening of local communities and the development of rural tourism.
The STAR Project is implemented under the IPA III Cross-Border Cooperation Program Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027.
