As part of the 25th edition of the Mostar Economy Fair, where this year’s partner country was the Republic of Croatia, the Mostar Economic Forum was held, attended by representatives of INTERA Technology Park.
This event was structured with three panel discussions, the first of which addressed the topic “Benefits of the Republic of Croatia’s Entry into the EU – What Can Bosnia and Herzegovina Expect?” One of the panelists was Vedran Šimunović, the Executive Director of INTERA Technology Park.
During the discussion, the Director of INTERA TP outlined the successes achieved in its 13 years of operation, noting that INTERA TP has successfully implemented 16 EU direct projects, many of which were funded through IPA programs, and a total of over 60 different projects, many of which were co-financed by the European Union. It was emphasized that through these projects, INTERA TP has not only promoted innovation and supported the development of startups through business support and a business incubator but has also actively worked on establishing important partnerships and networks crucial for the success of our initiatives.
Additionally, regarding the challenges, it was highlighted that the complexity of the administrative structure in Bosnia and Herzegovina often leads to a lack of coordination and alignment with EU goals, which can slow down processes and duplicate efforts. Another challenge mentioned was that INTERA TP, as a business support organization, faces the need for project co-financing. European programs require that part of the funds be secured from local sources, which can be difficult for non-profit organizations that do not have steady funding sources.
Director Vedran Šimunović also proposed a solution to these challenges, suggesting the engagement of all relevant levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as support from the international community, including the EU, to ensure the efficient use of EU funds. This approach will enable better utilization of development opportunities, which is crucial for technological advancement and economic growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
