Engineering, as the foundation of modern technological advancement, requires constant improvement and the use of the latest tools and methods. In that spirit, a workshop titled “Application of FEM and CFD Tools in Engineering” was held at INTERA Technology Park in Mostar, bringing together experts, engineers, entrepreneurs, and students interested in advanced software tools for numerical analysis.
The Finite Element Method (FEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) represent two key tools that enable the simulation and analysis of complex physical processes in various engineering fields. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among participants about the fundamental principles of these tools and guide them in practical application through several demonstrations.
Dr. Siniša Majer from KONČAR Institute for Electrical Engineering Ltd. from Zagreb, conducted the first session titled “Application of CFD Numerical Calculations”. Through an introduction to CFD, participants gained insight into the wide application of this method in practice, followed by live demonstrations showcasing the modeling of flow and heat exchange through an exhaust manifold and flow through a centrifugal pump.
In the second part of the workshop, Mr. Josip Hozmec, also from KONČAR Institute for Electrical Engineering Ltd., presented the “Application of FEM in Mechanical Structure Calculations”. Participants learned about the application of FEM in modeling and analyzing structures and gained insight into the steps of each numerical analysis through practical examples.
This workshop represents just one step toward the advancement of the engineering profession in the region, providing participants with the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and create new business opportunities.
The workshop was organized as part of the DIGIMET project, which is a component of the project “Innovations and Digitalization of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in BiH/EU4DigitalSME,” jointly financed by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) with the aim of developing the economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a special emphasis on digital transformation. The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
